SLC's History

Paris Building at Old Campus (Concordia Language Village)
Founded in April 2000, Schoolcraft Learning Community was born from a desire to provide students with a fresh, engaging approach to education. With just 120 students in grades K-8, we set out on a journey to reimagine learning by partnering with Expeditionary Learning Outward Bound. This partnership, combined with the dedication and passion of our teachers and staff, allowed us to create an environment where learning extends beyond the classroom, and into the outdoors and real-world experiences.
Since those early days, we have continually evolved, growing in size and scope while staying true to our core mission. Each year, we’ve made thoughtful changes to better meet the needs of our students and community, shaping Schoolcraft into the dynamic, vibrant learning community it is today.
We now enroll approximately 200 students, each encouraged to explore, question, and learn through hands-on projects, experiential education and quality time in the natural world. Our team of more than 40 staff members is devoted to nurturing curiosity and inspiring a lifelong love of learning. Together, we continue to build a community where students are empowered to take ownership of their education, supported by a dedicated and caring staff, and enriched by a learning model that prepares them to succeed in an ever-changing world.
